APHC urges UN to take cognizance of Kashmir situation Remembers Sheikh Aziz



Islamabad, Aug 11: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (M) Pakistan chapter on Wednesday staged a sit-in in front of UNMOGIP office in Islamabad and urged the world body to take stock of the simmering situation in Kashmir valley.
Led by the APHC convener Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, the protest demonstration was attended by Mir Tahir Masood, Sheikh Yaqoob, Dr Aala, Manzoor-ul-Haq, Altaf Wani, Syed Muzaffar Hussain, Abdul Majeed, M Abdullah Gilani, Khadim Hussain, Abdul Hameed, Sheikh Mateen, Tufail Altaf and several others. Whereas the JKLF leader Rafique Ahmed Dar was also present on the occasion.
The participants demanded that UN should discharge its moral and legal responsibility vis-à-vis the resolution of Kashmir dispute.
Speaking briefly on the occasion, the Hurriyat representatives denounced the stepped-up human rights violations in Kashmir valley.
Referring to the killings of innocent civilians they said “Indian forces have unleashed reign of terror in the valley by killing more than 50 people in two months time”.
They said valley was under complete siege for last several weeks and people were being subjected to starvation during ‘uninterrupted curfew and undue restrictions across the valley’.
The speakers paid eulogizing tributes to Sheik Abdul Aziz, who was killed by troopers on August 11, 2008.
Describing him as the man of principles, they said simplicity, honesty and truthfulness have been the hallmark of the deceased leader’s personality.
A memorandum addressed to UN secretary General Ban Ki Moon was also presented to UNMOGIP officials.
The participants offered Fateha to Sheikh Abdul Aziz and other Kashmiri martyrs who laid down their lives during the ongoing struggle for right to self-determinaiton.
Meanwhile, similar function was held at PL House Rawalpindi wherein rich tributes were paid to Sheikh Abdul Aziz.
Kashmir traders also organized a prayer function at Gunj Mandi Rawalpindi to pay homage to the deceased leader.
