EXECUTIVE MEETING HELD AT APHC OFFICE SRINAGAR

An important executive meeting was held at All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Head office Rajbagh Srinagar today chaired by its chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Mohammad Umer Farooq and attended by Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Aga Syed Budgami, Masroor Abbas, Moulana Abdullah Tari, Musadiq Adil and Khalil Mohammad Khalil. In a meeting a threadbare discussion was discussed about recent political situation of Kashmir. The Executive members unanimously decided that they will march towards Shopian on 29 May under its chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq.
Meanwhile Acting Chairman Jammu Kashmir Peoples League Mukhtar Ahmad Waza will address public gathering tomorrow at Ashmuqam after Friday congregration.

PROFILE : Shaheed-e-Azeemat: Sheikh Abdul Aziz

The martyred chairman of the Jammu Kashmir Peoples League (JKPL) and executive member, Hurriyat Conference (M), Sheikh Abdul Aziz had been a part of the Kashmir struggle for most of his life, serving many torturous detentions in and outside the state.
Sheikh Aziz, 60, resident of Namblabal, Pampore (Famous Zaffron Town) started his political career by joining Young Men’s League (YML) in 1970 fighting for the resolution of Kashmir issue in accordance with the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.

However, the Young Men’s League and other parties including Students Youth League and Islamic Organization of Inayat Andarbi and Azam Inquilabi joined hands and merged together to form Peoples League in 1974. In the newly constituted Peoples League, He was nominated as district president for Pulwama. It split in 1980 with Farooq Rehmani heading one group and S Hamid leading another. Sheikh stayed with Rehmani group and was nominated as the vice-chairman of the party.

In early 1990s, the Peoples League formed a militant outfit Al-Jehad and he crossed over to the other side of the Line of Control (LoC) into Muzaffarabad for receiving arms training. After returning, he emerged as the commander-in-chief and was called as Baba-e-Jehad. He was arrested in Pulwama and lodged in different jails outside the state including Jodhpur and New Delhi.

Following his release in 1996, he designated himself as the chairman of Jammu Kashmir Peoples League. Later he joined Hurriyat faction led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
After his release, Sheikh Abdul Aziz went to Pakistan to participate in the marriage ceremony of his brother, Sheikh Yaqoob in 1996. After alighting from the aeroplane to Lahore, he kissed the tarmac only to be arrested by the police on his return and was lodged in Tihar jail where he was subjected to severe physical and mental torture. After his release, he remained neutral and didn’t join any political party.

He formally joined the Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on January 11, 2007 and became its executive member.
