Peoples League welcome UN chief’s statement on Kashmir

Senior APHC Leader and Acting Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Peoples League, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza has welcomed the recent statement of the UN Secretary General, Ban-Ki-Moon in which he expressed serious concern over the situation in Kashmir. Mukhtar Waza while speaking in a public gathering at Sarnal Anantnag along with party General Secretary Mohammad Ashraf Vaid expressed satisfaction at the UN secretary-general, Ban Ki-moon having offered his services to mediate on the Kashmir issue. He said that the UN had ruled in favour of a plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir and now it was incumbent on the world body to play a role in resolving the issue.

Mukhtar Waza said that it was high time for the world community to ensure peaceful and permanent settlement of the Kashmir dispute to pave way for peace and stability in the whole south Asian region.

The APHC leader said in spite of using the worst kinds of atrocities and oppressions, India had miserably failed to crush the Kashmiris’ freedom struggle.

He said after making supreme sacrifices, Kashmiris had sent a loud and clear message to India and across the world that they were ready to forgo everything to take the ongoing liberation movement to its logical conclusion.

While condemning the government’s repeated bars on Friday prayers, Waza called upon religious leaders and scholars in Kashmir to put up a united stand against interference in religious affairs by the authorities.

Waza also expressed serious concern over the miserable plight of illegally detained Kashmiris including Hurriyat leaders and activists. Waza maintained that the detained Hurriyat leaders were not being provided with basic human facilities like medical care and hygienic food due to which their health was deteriorating day by day. He pointed out that India wanted to suppress the ongoing liberation movement by putting the Hurriyat leaders behind bars but would never succeed in its nefarious designs.

Waza asked the world human rights organizations to send their delegations to take stock of the gross human rights violations being perpetrated by Indian troops in Kashmir.

Meanwhile, spokesman of Peoples League, Gh. Nabi Waseem while addressing public gathering at Nagri Kupwara has appealed the world community to impress upon India to release all the illegally detained Hurriyat leaders and activists. He said, “India has turned the Kashmir into a police state by usurping all the democratic liberties including right to peaceful protest and freedom of expression. The occupation authorities are victimizing the Kashmiri people for demanding their inalienable right to self-determination.”
