JKPL seeks US intervention for Kashmir solution

Senior Hurriyat Conference Leader and acting chairman Peoples League Mukhtar Ahmad Waza said US should play a facilitator if the mediation is not acceptable to India. “US should use its influence on both India and Pakistan to facilitate a solution of this long festering problem. The solution should be acceptable to both the countries as well as to people of Kashmir”, he said.
Waza said that despite accords India and Pakistan are lingering the Kashmir dispute for the past 63 years. “We believe Kashmir is a political problem and it needs a political solution in accordance with its historical perspective and aspirations of Kashmiris. For past six decades, bilateral efforts have failed to resolve the dispute. We are left with no option but to seek the third party intervention of US for removing the trust deficit between India and Pakistan to pave the way for permanent solution of the dispute,” he said.
While hailing Obama’s statement, Waza said, “We thank US president from the core of our heart for his efforts on resolving Kashmir dispute. Kashmiris have respected the wishes and aspirations of people of America and rest of the world by changing their movement from armed one to peaceful resistance.”
