Hurriyat (G) endorses Aug 11 strike call

Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani Friday endorsed the strike call on August 11 by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq led faction on the “martyrdom anniversary” of Sheikh Aziz and others during the land row agitation last year.
“We extend our full support to the strike call by Hurriyat Conference (M) on August 11 and urge people to fully cooperate as it is in the larger interest of the struggle,” Aiyaz Akhbar, spokesman of the Hurriyat Conference (G) told Press Bureau of India. He said that the decision to this effect was taken at a meeting by the amalgam leaders.
The spokesman also paid tributes to the Sheikh Abdul Aziz and others and urged people to fulfill the mission for which, he said, Sheikh Aziz sacrificed his life.
He said that Sheikh Aziz, who was the chairman of People’s League, spent his entire life for the cause of self determination for the people of Kashmir.
“He spent most of his life in jails and ultimately sacrificed it for the larger interest of the people,” he said, adding, “The best tributes to him and other martyrs lie in accomplishment of their mission.”
On Aug 06, Hurriyat Conference (M) called for complete strike on August 11 to express solidarity with the “mission of martyrs including those who laid their lives during Amaranth land row agitation” last year.
The Hurriyat Conference has also announced to hold special prayers at the martyr’s graveyard in Eidgah here on August 11 besides a condolence meeting will be organized in Pampore, the home town of Aziz who died in Baramulla during the ‘Muzaffarabad Challo march’. (PBI)
